Like to top off your coffee with a muffin, caramel roll or scone? The yummy sweet treats found here definitely aren't half-baked! Located on the stellar University of North Dakota campus, you'll also get a lovely view with your brew. Archives is committed to building collective partnerships, which means with every purchase, customers are also giving back to our community. In addition to hot drinks such as the White Chocolate Mocha (my top pick) and S’mores Latte, their friendly baristas also mix up scrumptious cold coffee concoctions.

Formerly known as The Other Half Coffee & Tap House, this charming coffeehouse has been beautifully transformed by owner Sandi Luck into a cozy and inviting space perfect for relaxation. Enjoy an extensive menu featuring a wide variety of delicious coffee drinks, rich hot chocolate, refreshing beer, wine, and mimosas. Plus, indulge in an even larger selection of mouthwatering charcuterie boards that are perfect for sharing. Whether you're catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment, this quaint coffeehouse is a must-visit destination.

This Grand Forks original is the only place in town that actually roasts their own beans! My top three blends are Uff Da (light roast), Cowboy (medium roast) and Mocha Java (dark roast). Since they sell K-Cups or can bag some beans to-go, y’all can brew up a cup for yourself at home anytime. One of their gooeylicious homemade caramel rolls or eggcellent bagel sammies is a must try! THE EMBER

8 North 3rd Street, Grand Forks

Perusing our unique Downtown boutiques and need a break? Stop by The Ember for a cup and some conversation! The friendly volunteer baristas are there to serve both you and the community, as a portion of funds raised go toward local charities and organizations. The Ember proudly serves specialty coffees from Backstory Coffee Roasters based in Saint Paul, MN. All their syrups, milk options and ingredients are specifically chosen for their distinguishable quality and potential to become a delicious hand-crafted beverage. With your freshly made drink in hand – perhaps a luscious lemon bar or poppyseed muffin, as well – head upstairs to the loft for a game of cards or quick read from their mini library.

This eclectic coffee camper on the go serves a large selection of hot and cold coffee drinks plus acai bowls and local baked goods. They also sell some pretty sweet swag. Follow Happy Camper on social media to find out where they’ll be parked on any given day. One place you’re sure to nab a nosh and some java is at Town Square Farmers Market every Saturday in the summer.

URBAN STAMPEDE

324 Kittson Avenue, Grand Forks

In addition to fresh-brewed java, this funky landmark Downtown coffeehouse (which once served as a bank for fur traders) offers specialty drinks, bagels, sandwiches and pastries. My usual order is an old school cappuccino and freshly made Belgian waffle. The Urban is also home to the World’s Smallest Art Gallery, featuring rotating works by talented local artists. In between sips, peruse through the souvenir/gift section and pick out a cool t-shirt or mug.

WIRED BEAN

This popular Eastside coffeehouse is brewing up lots of delicious drinks including such coffeehouse classics as a creamy cappuccino and chocolatey mocha. Some of Wired Bean’s own tasty creations, which can be served hot or cold, are the Moosetracks (espresso and milk with chocolate, peanut butter and vanilla), Caramel Roll (espresso and milk with caramel sauce and cinnamon bun syrup), Lucky Charm (espresso and milk with vanilla and green mint) and Zebra (espresso and milk with chocolate and hazelnut). Since Wired Bean makes their bakery items in-house, you’ll wanna make sure to enjoy a fresh donut, apple fritter or slice of banana bread while there.
