FORKSful of cooler December to-dos
Not sure how to entertain yourself and/or the whole fam bam when flakes start to fly? Greater Grand Forks has gotcha covered with lots of December options for keeping both the kiddos and the kid in all of us amused. Here are my top five cool weather ways to play.
Spin Around Downtown
Located on the corner of DeMers Avenue and 3rd Street, the Town Square Ice Rink is the perfect place to attempt your best flying camel spin, enjoy a pick-up hockey game or try your hand at broomball. Warm up afterward at one of Downtown’s two brewpubs – The TapRoom and Half Brothers – or grab a caffeine infused NA brew at Urban Stampede coffeehouse. There are also several dining options close by ranging from upscale gourmet fare to downhome comfort food: Harry’s Steakhouse, Skies 322, Ely’s Ivy, The Toasted Frog, Bonzer’s Sandwich Pub, Brick & Barley, Joe Black’s, The Hub Pub and others.
Jump for Joy
The whole gang will have a blast working up a sweat at Northern Air Action Park! North Dakota’s top indoor trampoline park, this large complex contains a 10,000 square foot jump area complete with numerous trampolines, two dodgeball courts, a foam pit and dunk station. Northern Air also has a 30+ game arcade, laser tag, inflatables, Hologate Virtual Reality, an adult-friendly (21+) axe throwing and their latest addition, one of the region’s largest indoor karting tracks. When the fun is finally all done, gather up your posse and mosey on over to Pizza Ranch for some tasty chow plus more games and good times!
Be Dazzled
From now through December 31, from 5:30 to 10 PM, Lions Clubs Christmas in the Park takes place in Lincoln Drive Park. This sparkling annual event is one of the area’s most popular interactive holiday displays. Pile your loved ones in the car and take a spin through paths lined with dozens of beautifully lit holiday displays sponsored by numerous local businesses, nonprofits and civic organizations.
Scheels Always Scores
While at this Forks megastore, the whole family will find good buys, great eats and grand times galore! In addition to offering stylish, quality sportswear and gear, their in-store café serves up delicious homemade fudge, ice cream, sandwiches, soups and salads. For the non-shoppers, Scheels provides a challenging multi-sports simulator, shooting gallery, mini bowling alley and bubble hockey game.
Sing Before Your Dinner
A Magical Medora Christmas takes center stage at the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center, December 21, at 3 PM. This award-winning production has proven to be a popular holiday tradition for thousands of people across the region. Talented past and present performers from the legendary Medora Musical will serenade and entertain you with a variety of Christmas tunes. After the standing O show, race over to nearby Speedway 805 Grill & Bar, then brake to partake in a delicious dinner complete with some of Forks’ most succulent burgers and steaks!
