UND’s first student organization, the Adelphi Literary Society, presented the Adelphi Fountain to the University in 1905. It was the first purely decorative fixture on the campus, and thanks to a gift from the Hopper-Danley estate, it was restored in 2007. Guided by early photographs, the artists created new figures of the Oracle of Delphi and three Muses, which represent several cultures including a Lakota woman. One holds a sheaf of wheat, another a scroll, another a lyre.
